I created a custom web design for the Iowa City robotics team and developed a custom back-end to allow easy page updates, blog entries, and photo uploads.

Custom Web Design & Development

The Iowa City robotics team wished to establish a website that embodied their creative and unique personality. To this end, I used hand-drawn illustrations in the background and implemented the team's bright color scheme to create a design that was cheery and welcoming but not overwhelming.

Results

The new site was used and updated frequently and was recognized with the "Website Excellence Award" at their regional competition. The award signified an achievement in website excellence in terms of content, design, and usability.

I implemented a strong landing page for ZoomBalloon.com and doubled their conversion rate in the process.

Site Optimization

ZoomBalloon wished to increase their conversion rate (percent of visitors who become customers) and came to me to create a landing page. Working with the existing design, I created a landing page that establishes understanding and trust to ease the visitor into the purchasing process. I also created helpful graphics to show the user their progress.

Small Changes, Dramatic Results

The changes were minor but the impact was great. The simple landing page and graphics I implemented nearly doubled ZoomBalloon.com's conversion rate according to the owner.

I redesigned the MinnieMints.com website to improve the shopping experience.

Website Redesign

The old website was showing common signs of age, such as: clunky navigation, poor search engine optimization, and a lack of visual appeal. I redesigned the website with an emphasis on keeping the established branding but fixing the aforementioned problems. The new design has a solid foundation of xhtml and css. The home page was rearranged to include a place for current promotions and links to all of their candies.

Website Development

In addition to the changes to the visual design, MinnieMints also requested minor changes to the ordering process. The few changes I implemented helped remove clutter and improve the flow of ordering.

I designed and released the free theme Happy Go Try.

Theme Development

I designed this free template with careful consideration of typography (of which Happy Go Try is an anagram), quick load times, and ease of use. The theme is free for personal or commercial use of any sort. It was designed to be easily customizable, and the colors, fonts, and layout can easily be modified by anyone with a basic background in HTML.

Recognition

The design was one of the featured themes on the popular SmashingMagazine (a blog for website designers) for their design contest. It was later developed into a Wordpress (a blogging platform) theme by wpshout. Unfortunately, I have no information regarding the number of times it has been downloaded or used. Feel free to use it for any project!
